Hand Mixer
Review – The Cuisinart CHM-3 Hand Mixer
Cuisinart have
a reputation for producing high quality kitchenware, and
this hand mixer lives up to the high expectation we had
of it.
This model retails at around $30 and is a
good all purpose mixer, and will be able to tackle most
tasks that you throw at it. It has 3 different speed
settings and works on 220 watts of power.
Performance
The cuisinart hand mixer has more than
enough power to deal with day to day mixing. It will be able
to handle all type of cake mixing, so if you are looking for
a cake
mixer, this will deal with every eventuality. Because it
is so powerful, it can actually be quite noisy, and you will
have to keep a hold of the bowl in which the ingredients are
held during mixing or it will fly off and the mix will go
everywhere. As such, it is very hands on, as you will be
holding the mixer in one hand, and the bowl in the
other.
Appearance
The Cuisinart is all rather basic looking
and comes with an all white exterior. It is not the best
looking model on the market, however it more than makes for
this with power and functionality. It comes with a easy
swivel cord so can be easily used by left handed and right
handed people alike. It is extremely easy to use a comes
with a simple beater eject button, and the beaters
themselves are self cleaning and very long. It also has the
advantage of not having any centre posts. It weights in at a
slightly chunky 3 pounds so may be uncomfortable to use for
extended periods of times, and the motor does give off some
quite powerful vibrations. This is sure to get annoying if
you are using it for a long time.
Verdict
The Cuisinart CHM-3 Hand Mixer is not much
more expensive than the average mixing wand, yet is far more
powerful, and is the only mixer most households will need.
If you are looking for an all purpose home mixer, then this
is a great choice for you. As a cake mixer it can handle any
task, as well as nearly any other cooking related mixing
task.
As mentioned earlier, it is somewhat heavy
and cumbersome, and your hands may suffer with the powerful
vibrations it produces, but this is not a problem if you are
only using it for short bursts at a time. If you are mixing
ingredients for longer periods, then a stand mixer is
probably going to be more suitable for you, or at least far
more comfortable.
Although not very attractive, it is
compact enough for easy storage, simple to clean, and has a
very durable feel and look to it. The build quality is high
so it is unlikely to break down and should be in use for
many years to come.
As an all purpose mixer the Cuisinart is
great, and this is probably the best value for money
cake
mixer we have come across. It will handle all of your
cake mixing needs, save you a lot of time, and all for under
$30.
Our rating =
5/5
It would have been nice if it were
slightly more attractive looking, and lighter, but we cannot
fault the weight as the amount of power it produces will
require a heavy motor. At $30 it is an absolute
steal!
