Wand Mixer Review – The Braun MR4000 Hand Blender

This Braun mixer is actually classified as a mixing wand even though it has been given the hand blender product title.

This model retails at around $15 and is a great light mixer ideal for somebody who only needs an appliance for basic kitchen mixing tasks. It has 2 speeds and works on a 400 watt power consumption. It comes with a beaker accessory which can hold up to 600ml of contents, and a detachable anti splash shaft.

Performance

The 2 speed settings are adequate for mixing batters and softer ingredients, although it will likely struggle if you try to use it on harder and thicker mixes. It should have no problems dealing with most cake mixtures. The motor is noticeably silent when running, and it does feel surprisingly powerful for such a small mixer.

Appearance

The Braun comes in an attractive white and blue make up, and has a comfortable soft anti slip grip. The design is very sleek and modern looking, and the build quality is fantastic. It looks and feels very sturdy and high quality, although this is something I would expect from a Braun. Luckily everything other than the motor is dishwasher safe, so it is extremely quick and easy to clean. This is a very low maintenance cake mixer, particularly when compared with some of the more complex models available on the market today. It weighs in at just over 1kg when unboxed, so is not to heavy on the hand. The vibrations it produces are also tolerable.

Verdict

At such a low price this mixing wand is very good value for money. You get a lot of power for your dollar. Despite this, it is advisable to use a larger more powerful mixer for the more strenuous mixing tasks you have, as the little motor in this wand is unlikely to survive sustained heavy use. It is more suited for producing sauces, smoothies, purees, and lighter cake mixtures. In addition to this, you only get one blade, which further reduces the range of tasks you can perform.

It is extremely compact in size and makes its bulkier cousins look out of place. This makes ideal for quick access and convenient storage. This convenience is further enhanced by the ability to simply twist of the blade attachment and pop it straight into the dishwasher after use. The anti splash shaft works surprisingly well and keeping collateral mess to a minimum, and as long as you are careful when using it, you are unlikely to splash your mixture everywhere.

As long as you do not have high expectations about what tasks this wand cake mixer can take on, then you will not be disappointed. Customer feedback on this product has been incredibly positive. If you are looking for a cheap, basic mixer that will perform some of the simpler mixing tasks in your kitchen, then you can’t go wrong with the Braun MR4000. If you are looking for a cheap and reliable basic cake mixer, then we think this is the perfect choice.

Our rating = 4/5

A few extra attachments would have been nice, and we were somewhat baffled by the two different speed settings which appeared to be pretty much identical. Other than that, we cannot flaw this mixer at its current price level.
